A Liberty Odyssey invites us on a voyage inspired by early storytelling – the ancient myths and legends of classical antiquity.

Drawing from the rich symbolism and captivating iconography of mythic narrative to explore Liberty’s own heritage of storytelling through art and design, the collection takes influence from the epic tales o gods, monsters, and heroes, which have continued to ignite the imaginations of artists and poets for millennia.

Sea Salt

Draws inspiration from the ferocity of sea spray, as waves break and crush thunderously against the shore. Created in the London studio by melting shavings of coloured wax crayon, its textural pattern offers a modern, easy-to-wear take on Liberty’s ever popular Pepper design.

Myrtle

This trail of fluffy myrtle flowers is characterised by its sense of elegance and simplicity. Inspired by an archival Liberty artwork and reimagined to represent the story of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love.

Medusa

Inspired by the myth of Medusa, this mesmerising botanical paisley incorporates intricate seaweed-like foliage alongside fantastical flowers and cascading fronds. Drawn from a Liberty furnishing fabric created in the 1970s, this reimagining brings to life a mysterious concoction of flora and fauna. Look closely to discover trails of Medusa’s legendary serpent-like hair, writhing through the verdant jungle.

Posted Petals

Inspired by the messenger god Hermes, who could convey communications between the worlds of mortals, gods, and the underworld. Incredibly, its floral design is formed from an intricate collage of postcards and hand-written letters – using details within the letters including stamps and franking, textures in the flowers have been built up layer by layer to create a dense botanical pattern.

Poseidon

Inspired by the intricate mosaics of classical antiquity, Poseidon is named in homage to the Greek god of the sea. The design depicts fish camouflaged among rippling waves, painted in watercolour to add texture and tone.

Coral Fern

Assembled by reconstructing an archival Liberty scarf print from 1976, this design offers a blend of nature’s abundant vegetation both beneath the oceans and through the woodlands of terra firma.

Wonder Garden

An abundance of elaborate flowers drawn in soft pencil crayon overlap to create this tonal camo-style floral.
